The North Star Scale Story
North Star Scale co-owner Paul Kolden was working for a scale company out of Southwestern Minnesota when the idea for North Star Scale first originated. The scale company Paul was currently working for was bought and sold a couple times in a few short years, both Paul and future North Star Scale co-owner Jeff Reynolds went along for the ride and ended up working for Massop Electric in 1994.
For 15 years Paul and Jeff ran the scale division for Massop Electric. Paul and Jeff decided in 2008 it was time to set out on their own and pursue business ownership. They bought the scale division from the Massop family and started doing business January 1st, 2009 as North Star Scale, Inc. Since then, Paul and Jeff have expanded the business extensively in the last nine years. The business is thriving and everyone at North Star Scale is looking forward to a busy future helping local customers in their business ventures.

Paul Kolden, Co-Owner
My Name is Paul Kolden, co-owner of North Star Scale, Inc. I was raised on a farm in Southern Minnesota near a small town called Ormsby. The main North Star Scale office is currently on the property I grew up on. I went to St. James High School and later received a degree in Electronics from Mankato Technical College. Shortly after college, I started my first “real” job at age 21.
Since starting North Star Scale, my greatest enjoyment is being able to meet customers and help them enhance their business with quality scale and grain probes. The relationships we make are what separate us from other scale businesses. We treat you like family—because this community is our family.
Jeff Reynolds, Co-Owner
I was born in Mankato, Minnesota and grew up in Mapleton, Minnesota with a few years in Vernon Center, Minnesota. I attended Mapleton High School and graduated from South Central Technical College in Jackson, Minnesota for Electronics. I immediately started working in the scale industry for a small company in Southwest Minnesota.
Since we created North Star Scale, Inc. we have enjoyed great success, thanks to the many loyal businesses in the area who we consider friends as well as customers. I’m married with two children and three grandchildren. I enjoy hunting, fishing, golf, and other outdoor activities.
